Colloidal Silver Uses

The use of ionic colloidal silver for its antimicrobial effects is not a new concept. In fact, the idea has been around for thousands of years. As early as the ancient Greek civilization, silver was recognized for its ability to keep foods and beverages fresh for an extended period of time. Because of this, the Greeks lined their utensils and drinking vessels with silver, thus paving the way for silverware.

Silver was used as coating for catheters in hospitals in order to prevent opportunistic infections. Silver was also used to purify water to deter the spread of infectious diseases.

Today, silver is utilized in many FDA-approved drugs, including compounds for treatment of severe burns and eyedrops for newborn babies to prevent conjunctivitis. It is also added in water filters as well as bandages for dressing wounds. In the latter case, ionic colloidal silver is said to aid in preventing infection from setting in as well as promote healing by speeding up tissue formation in the affected area.

Ionic colloidal silver may be taken orally. In fact, most of the ionic colloidal silver products available today are oral supplements.
